ITINERARY IN DETAILS:

Day 1 MOSCOW
EVEArrival to Moscow, transfer to hotel
Day 2 MOSCOW - FULL DAY SIGHT SEEING
AMCity tour including visit to Red Square, St. Basil’s cathedral, Novodevichy Convent, view from Sparrow Hills
Originally a commercial centre, Red Square has been at the very centre of Russian history since the 15th century, from Ivan the Terrible’s confession of his misdeeds to the people in 1550, to great demonstrations, executions and the great parades of the Soviet Union’s military might. Ironically, “krasny” originally meant beautiful; it came to mean “red” only in the last century! From the time of Ivan the Great the square was used as a huge gathering place for public events, markets, fairs and festivals. The magnificent square encompasses an area of over $ 70,000 square metres and is bounded by the Kremlin walls, St.Bazil’s cathedral, the Historical museum and GUM departments store, the shopping arcade, that was completed in 1893. Continue to see the main streets and boulevards, including the viewpoint on Sparrow Hills wherefrom you see the whole of Moscow as well as the impressive building of Moscow University (one of the seven “Stalin sisters” built in 50-s of last century).
PMKremlin (territory + cathedrals)
Visit the oldest part of Moscow – Kremlin. You might be surprised how many ancient and magnificent structures one can see within its walls: 15th century cathedrals (the coronation, wedding and bury place of Russian rulers), bell-tower, Patriach’s Palace, Grand Kremlin Palace and of course the richest museum - Armoury.
Day 3 BARNAUL/ALTAI MOUNTAINS
AM/PMArrival to Barnaul, transfer to Tungur village
Altai - "The Golden Mountains" is the mountain land on the south of Siberia which keeps ecological purity and untouched wild nature so far. The communication with local people, many of whom are followers of exotic doctrines- pagans (Shamanists), followers of Roerikh and Old Believers ("starovery")- gives a unique social experience. A number of archeological artifacts (from 1,500,000 BC!), including rock paintings and Paleolithic sits are en our route, it makes visit to Altai not only outdoor adventure but captivating trip as well! Trekking to Kucherlinskoye and Akkem lakes area allows to see all the beauty of Altai mountains. This unique trip is based on the idea of hiking through mountain taiga to beautiful Kucherla Lake, then crossing simple pass (for acclimatization!) and placing a base camp on Akkem lake in front of amazing Akkem wall. Then, the travellers make side trips to the Akkem glacier, spectacular Valley of 7 Lakes and mysterious Yarlu Valley with Roerikh followers shrine or make simple climbing- to Mt. Yarlu (3370 m) or Mt. Bronia ("Armor", 3291 m).
Day 4 Full day sight seeing
AM/PMHiking up the Kucherla River; Ancient rock paintings en route
The Kucherla is one of three relatively short rivers that flow straight north from the Katun Range, meeting Katun where it passes eastwards along the range. The river starts from snow and glacier fields in high valleys just east of Mt. Belukha. Few kilometers below, where these streams join and deserve to be a river, it passes through an incredibly beautiful, 5-km long Kucherla Lake, one of major attractions in the Belukha region.
The only way to get to the river is hiking up the valley, all the way from Katun confluence. The start point for the trek is the village of Tungur, located on the left shore of the Katun (just opposite Kucherla mouth). Overall trek distance is about 30-35 km (18-22 miles) from the road head to the lake; trail is good and easy, and can be done in two-three days with the horses. While our hiking you will have a splendid opportunity to get acquainted with rock paintings of ancient people carved on the very mountains.

Day 6 Full day sight seeing
AM/PMHiking up the Kucherla River
Day 7 At leisure
Day 8 Full day sight seeing

Day 9 Full day sight seeing
AM/PMCrossing the Kara-Turek pass (3060 m), descent to Akkem Lake
Hike to the Akkem lake across the Kara-Tyurek ("Black Heart") mountain pass. In the beginning, the path steeply ascends grassy slope and crosses larch forest, then luxuriant blossoming alpine meadows and swampy areas abounding in medicinal Rose-root Stone-Crop. You will see colonies of marmots and mountain birds. Then the trail goes to the mountain pass across the stony fields. The altitude of the mountain pass is 3060 m. From there, we enjoy breathtaking mountain panoramas: beautiful view to Belukha, which is towering just in front of us, as well as to the Lake of Spirits, Yarlu valley, Blue Mountains and Kucherly river valley.

Akkem is one of the most beautiful lakes in Altai. We will have hiking excursions around to see some wonderful nature objects: Akkem glacier, Yarlu valley, the Valley of Seven Lakes and the Lake of Spirits. We ascend to the hanging Valley of Seven Lakes along the steep path. To the left, we view the peak Bronya (3291 m) and majestic Akoyuk peak (3670 m), which seems white because of the powerful hanging Akoyuk glacier. Akoyuk Mountain closes the Valley of Seven Lakes from the south. Ascending along the path across alpine meadows in luxuriant bloom, we will discover several lakes of various water color laying on different levels. Ringing waterfalls make the picture especially impressive. On the way back, we descend to the bottom of the Akoyuk mountain, where, very close to the glacier, lays one of the most beautiful lakes of this valley.
