Erarta Contemporary Art Museum

The new Erarta Contemporary art museum will open its doors to the public for the first time in November this year. Located in a 5 story St. Petersburg on Vasil island, the museum will initially hold over 2,000 works by 140 of Russia's best artists.

With Travel Russia you can have the opportunity to have an exclusive sneak preview to the museum's workshops to see the unique and highly artistic process of painting restoration performed by artists trained and graduated from 2000 year old St Petereburg Repin Fine Arts Academy (one of the top art schools in the world).

During this tour one can also see unique equipment for making giclees - museum quality copies with 3D effect and hand embellishment. Such copies can be seen in many world famous museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, MoMA and others. The key part in giclee making process is our museum quality scanner that has no analogs in Russia and very few in the rest of the world, one of those at Sotheby's, one other in Vatican and some of the most famous world museums.

The third part of the tour is storage with works of art that will be part of the permanent exhibition once the museum opens its doors to general public.

St PetersburgFor those looking for an interesting variation on St Petersburg, consider a Literary Tour concentrating on the great writers - Pushkin, Dostoyevsky, Akhmatova and Brodsky.

Alexander Pushkin - Visit Moika 12, the memorial apartment museum, Tzarskoye Selo, renamed Pushkin under the Soviets, Kitayeava dacha, the country house where he spent his honeymoon and the Lycee, a former famous school for boys of noble origin.

Fyodor Dostoevsky - visit the apartment where the great writer lived and walk the same streets which witnessed the brutal murders in Crime and Punishment.

Two other great names early 20th century writing are Anna Akhmatova and Joseph Brodsky. Have a visit to memorial museum in the famous Fontain House to learn about Akhmatova life, where a separate permenant exhibition is devoted to Joseph Brodsky.

Throughout the literary journey there will be opportunities to familiarise the group with the works of all the writers. Perfect for students and children studying classical literature.
