Lying like a ribbon between the Black Sea and the Caspian, the Caucasus form one of the most dramatic landscapes in Europe. In spring the blossom of almond and apricot trees dot the hillsides, while in summer shepherds take their flocks up into the high pastures to graze the lush grass. Eagles circle overhead and wildlife abounds. It is however in winter that the Caucasus reveal their best kept secret - snow. Due to the peculiar geographical position, the Caucasus boasts some of the best snow conditions for skiing to be found anywhere in the world and with a new infrastructure in place around Sochi, it has been chosen to host the 2014 winter Olympics.

The newest addition to the area is the Grand Hotel Polyana. Located just 45 kms from Sochi and the Black Sea coast, the Grand Hotel Polyuana is the first 5 star hotel to open in the region. Located at an altitude of 680m and lying in a sheltered river valley surrounded by the jagged peaks of the Caucasus, there are 308 standard rooms, 18 Suites and 17 villas. The spa boasts both indoor and outdoor pools, a beauty salon, gym, saunas, hammam, skiing and snowboard simulators, tennis courts and sport grounds.
In winter the nearby gondola takes skiers to 1,436m and provides access to 15kms of skiing while in the summer months there is horse riding, trekking and fishing.

Pearls of Russian culture

For those visitors who are returning for a second time to Russia and who are interested in the art and culture of the 19th century we have a four day programme to the south of Moscow visiting the family estates of some of Russia's most famous artistic names. Vasily Polenov is perhaps most famous for his masterpiece "The Moscow yard " variations of which hang in both the Tretyakov and the Russian Museum in St Petersburg. His family estate Polenovo is now open to visitors as is Spasskoy-Lutovinovo, the family estate of Ivan Turgenev. For more information click to our web site
