Backstage

The newly opened restaurant has a very unusual interior – simple and austere and at the same time very stylish – representing backstage of a theatre. Welcoming atmosphere, good service and delicious food. It is a restaurant of Mariinsky theatre, located just around the corner from Mariinsky. Is where you can easely have dinner after visiting famouse Swan Lake or Nutcracker, but do not forget to make a reservation beforehead as it’s a popular place with theatrical bohemia. It’s often visited by Valegy Gergiev, where he comes after conducting one or another opera or ballet. Placido Domingo when in St.Petersburg during White Nights Festival of 2001 was very much impressed by atmosphere and cuisine of the Backstage restaurant. It is not surprising as it’s interiors and atmosphere reflect spirit of the theatre. The old paintings in the corner conjures up images of Tatiana Larina from “Eugene Onegin and Lisa from “The Queen of Spades”. The Egyptian statues can probably remember hundreds of staging of Aida. There are also shields, swords and candelabras and fully operational ballet “bar”. These all is very well combined with the exquisite table settings and modern cuisine. |

The menu just like the interiors is very traditional, without any experiments, which is right in any respect. |

Many dishes are cooked using almost forgotten ancient recipes, exciting gypsy entertaiment, a truly Russian experience and a lot of fun!
