“I cannot begin to tell you what a grand success our trip was. Elena, so educated, grand knowledge of history, full of fun and rather pretty. She was with us for every second, was SO sweet and planning each day so as not too tiring. We saw every Palace, each more magnificent than the last, goodness what collections they made, esp Catherine the Greatt, and the Yussopov’s. I was fascinated by the Church of the Blood , the memorial to Alexander who died there and the small chapel across the road. We loved the summer palace of Catherine the Great and of course were emotional to see the Church of the Peter Paul Fortress where the Romanov’s have finally come to rest. We went to several charming Russian restaurants, loved the Astoria, and I couldn’t resist buying a little egg to wear round my neck! So all in all it was perfect. Then, quite unexpectedly, in the airport, we were given first class treatment, went in front of all the queue and zipped through passport control, like a dream. Please thank the office in Russia for arranging that. It made quite a difference to the waiting ... Thank you so much for all your hard and thoughtful work on our behalf! ”
